DIVORCES IN UKRAINE IN DEMOGRAPHY DIMENSIONS: PAST AND PRESENT

Abstract: The instability of marriage, increase in the number of divorces is characteristic of marital behavior of the population in most developed countries of the modern world. This is a consequence of the modernization of social and economic life in conditions of modern regime of population reproduction – low birth rates and rising life expectancy. There are contradictions between the instability of marriage and society’s need for comfortable conditions of socialization of children, the negative consequences are more noticeable in countries with low economic and social protection of the population, which include Ukraine. During the ÕÕ century, Ukraine was going through forced accelerated modernization of marriage and family relations, total control over private life during Stalinism, social disasters, and these formed the dynamics of indicators of divorce. Modern Ukraine is in a group of European countries with the highest divorce rate, which has a negative effect on fertility; but a tendency to reduce the number of divorces take place
