Chornobyl catastrophe: 25 years since

Abstract: The article contains comprehensive characteristic of social, demographic, medical and psychological
consequences of the Chernobyl catastrophe. The information and methodological problems
of objective assessment of the impact of the consequences of the Chernobyl catastrophe on demographic
processes in Ukraine are analyzed also. Due to the fact that the Chernobyl catastrophe caused multiple changes in migration and reproductive behavior, worsening of health, increasing
of mortality, acceleration of population ageing of the radiation-contaminated areas in the paper
it is emphasized necessity of regular carrying out of monitoring and evaluating of the catastrophe
impact on the health and well-being of the population of the Chernobyl-affected regions. In the
research are defined the main directions of adjustment of the social and demographic policy in
the Chernobyl-affected regions.
Key words: The Chernobyl catastrophe, Chernobyl factor, Chernobyl affected regions, sex and
